The recommended time a shredder can be used (at capacity) before the Thermal Overload Protection cuts in and stops the motor. This is important because if a shredder is constantly being pushed beyond its intended design capacity, it will become unreliable and eventually fail prematurely. In general, users tend to under-estimate the volume that they think their new shredder will have to cope with, so it may pay to consider models with a greater capacity than first thought, especially in a shared, multi-user environment. Some heavy-duty shredders, however, are rated for continuous use and whether this is a feature that is needed or not, is something that also needs to be considered before going ahead with the purchase of such a larger machine. See the term 'Thermal Overload Protection' in the Glossary. |
