Shredders-UK Glossary
Sheet Capacity

The number of sheets that can be fed into a shredder in a single pass. The figure is usually calculated using normal 70gsm A4 paper.

It is usually up to the operator to judge whether the quantity of paper being fed into the shredder is more than it can actually cope with and some machines incorporate a gauge to assist in this. Some newer machines now incorporate electronic sensors that measure the amount of material being fed in and prevent the machine from starting up if it is too much.

Remember that if wide paper is folded to get it into the shredder because the Throat Width is too narrow to take it, this effectively doubles the number of sheets entering the cutter heads. See the term 'Throat Width' in the Glossary.
